Lili Flanders was raised by a French mother and American father in Washington, D.C. and New England. Her bilingual and bicultural upbringing, as well as long summers spent in France and Cape Cod, have shaped her outlook and her writing. She now lives with her husband, actor Peter Mackenzie, in a cozy empty nest in Los Angeles. Their three children are in flight.
Lili’s short fiction, flash stories, and creative nonfiction have appeared in online and print journals, including Wigleaf, Vestal Review, The Foundling Review, Pearl, and New Plains Review. In 2011, she won Vestal Review’s Ten Years in Flash Fiction contest. She has recently completed a memoir, The Only Way Around, about the years during which her oldest son was undergoing treatment for leukemia. Chapters from the memoir have appeared in literary magazines such as The Healing Muse, and in the anthology Uncertain Promise, published in 2014 by Compass Flower Press.
Lili is a graduate of the Juilliard School of Drama and holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Warren Wilson College. She has worked as an actor and English teacher, and currently writes, tutors, and leads creative writing workshops for students in elementary through high school.
